The Electrolux Screenfridge, set to launch in early 2000, was a high-tech command center for the modern home. Some of its standout features included: ?? A 13-inch LCD touchscreen for browsing, emailing and even watching TV? ?? A barcode scanner to track groceries and create automatic shopping lists? ?? Online grocery ordering that sent lists directly to partnered supermarkets? ?? A digital family calendar to manage schedules and reminders? ?? Video messaging and communication tools for seamless household coordination A bold idea, but the world just wasn’t ready. Internet shopping was still in its early days, and the technology for widespread adoption wasn’t quite there yet, making the concept difficult to scale. Fast forward to today, and many of the ideas explored in the Screenfridge — from connected appliances to smart home features — are part of everyday life.
